A GOQ (Genuine Occupational Qualification) exists when the essential nature of the job, or particular duties attached to the job, call for a member of one sex.  Empolyers must make an assessment on each job individually and must be reassessed periodically to ensure that circumstances have not changed.  GOQ's are usually used when dealing with matters of privacy and decency, in private households, single sex accommodation and dealing with personal welfare and counselling.
